1. Basic Functions

The FBM231 P0926GV provides a serial interface between dual-port field I/O devices and the Foxboro Evo™ system. It is usually used in pairs to provide redundancy at the Field Bus Module (FBM) level—one module serves as the master, and the other as the tracking module. When an actual issue is detected, the roles of the master and tracking modules switch automatically; users can also switch their roles at any time via SMDH (System Management Display Handler).

2. Port Configuration

The module is equipped with four ports, and each port can be individually configured as an RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 interface in software. This allows a single FBM231 to flexibly connect to multiple devices of different types. Ports 1, 2, 3, and/or 4 can be configured as a single logical port with redundant cables, enabling connection to dual-port I/O devices within the plant.

3. Communication Capabilities

  • It supports RS-232, RS-422, or RS-485 communication interface standards, and I/O software drivers can be downloaded from the available protocol library.
  • The module can handle up to 2000 DCI (Distributed Control Interface) block connections, communicate with a maximum of 64 RS-485 devices or 4 directly connected RS-232/RS-422 devices, and integrate field device data into the Foxboro control database.

5. Physical Connections

Data communication between two FBM231 modules and dual-port field devices is conducted through two four-port Terminal Assemblies (TA). Each TA is equipped with compression screw or ring lug terminals for RS-422 and RS-485 wiring, and each port has a DIP switch-selectable bus termination resistor. For RS-232 wiring, the TA features four standard DB-25 male connectors and a 24-DIP switch breakout bank, which can be used for any RS-232 wiring configuration.
